Annual Family Picnic

Welcome to our family picnic! 

Birds SA members often go bird watching on week days and the weekends mostly without their families. This event is an opportunity for all members of the family and friends to meet and greet each other and for the children to get involved in some fun activities in the beautiful surrounds of Laratinga Wetlands near Mount Barker.

Other activities

Guided bird walks around the wetlands with free bird booklets and a free raffle with a Haig's chocolate hamper, books and wine as prizes.

What to bring

A sausage sizzle will be available $3 each, or BYO picnic lunch, drinks, picnic rug, chairs, binoculars, cameras and enclosed shoes (e.g., runners, sneakers) for walking. 

Health and safety protocols

Hot weather protocol. If a fire ban is in effect or the forecast temperature is above 36C at Laratinga, the event will be automatically cancelled.

Health. If anyone is feeling unwell or has COVID-like symptoms, they should not take part in the event. Should a medical emergency occur, the member accepts any and all cost associated with or a consequence of the mishap.

Child safety. Laratinga Wetlands is a public place and parents/carers are responsible for the safety of children under 18 years. You acknowledge that parents/carers participate in the event with their children voluntarily and at their own risk. You are aware that risks exist and may arise during the activity if children are not supervised (including, but not limited to, the hazard of drowning, getting lost or wandering off with a stranger). You accept and assume all the risks of participating in the event.

Tickets: All tickets are free, so your order will be considered final.

A ticket must be purchased for each adult or friend attending the picnic, so we have an idea of numbers attending.

The only cost involved will be for the sausage sizzle at $3 each.   Please indicate your dietary requirements for the sausage sizzle by using the checkbox.
